The Occasion
Sarah Joy Delaney was born at 12:46 am on 22 July 2009. She weighed 6.6 lbs and measured 20.5 inches. Everything seemed perfect until she tried to nurse. We then noticed that she was not interested in nursing and was struggling for breath. It turns out the Lord permitted her to have a cleft palate, a recessed chin, and a displaced tongue which ends up obstructing the airway. This is commonly referred to as Pierre Robin Sequence or Complex though we are waiting on an official diagnosis at the time of my writing this. We are awaiting some genetic test results as well.
Admittedly, my wife and I were a bit taken aback but we knew that it was all in the Lord’s hands. We have since talked with numerous specialists and nurses and doctors and have discovered that she should end up living a normal life after some surgical procedures to fix everything in her mouth.
Through it all, the Lord has granted my wife and I much favor, grace, mercy, and peace. My wife was released from the hospital less than 9 hours after delivering Sarah–at the doctor’s offering. We have experienced Phil. 4:6 peace throughout it all. We have been able to share the gospel with countless nurses, doctors, people, and family members. Through it all, God is showing His faithfulness.
Sarah is currently at the Kosair hospital NIC-U and is doing extraordinarily well. Truth be told, she was one of the healthiest babies in the NIC-U. We praise God for His loving-kindness.
Two Ways to Win
- Please sign up for my RSS Feed and/or Email Feed. This accomplishes two goals. First, it keeps you, the reader up to date on what is being reviewed at Christian Book Notes and what is being given away here as well. Second, the more subscribers I have, the more the publishers will give books away through Christian Book Notes. Truly, it ends up being a win-win for you! When you subscribe, please take the time to email me at tdelaney017@yahoo.com and let me know. If you are already a subscriber, please email and let me know that and you will be entered as well. Emailing me will assure that we get your entry–otherwise, we have a hard time tracking who has signed up. (One entry per feed subscription per email address).
- The second way to be entered for a chance at one of the five sets of books is to leave a prayer in the comment field for Sarah, or Krista, or anyone else in my family, or the doctors. I want to take every opportunity I can to seek the Lord on behalf of my daughter and wife. It also serves as a great encouragement to my family. (One entry per email address).
Here are some suggestions for prayer:
- Wisdom for the doctors
- strength for Krista and Terry (me)
- that Sarah will not have any infection when the procedures are performed
- that the procedures will go well–her tongue will be sewn to her lip this coming Tuesday
- that the gospel will be shared
- that God will receive all the glory
The contest will end when Sarah comes home from the hospital. This may be one week or two weeks. It could be a month. If the Lord should allow her to stay longer than a month, I will add books to the give away as I review more.

I am thrilled to hear of the birth of your daughter, I hope and pray that all will go well with her surgeries and recovery.
My daughter was born with some problems with her thyroid that we incredibly frightening for a young parent – going to the children’s hospital in Memphis, blood being taken, nuclear scans, the fear of brain damage, and physical abnormalities.
God is always good, whether my baby is healthy or not, but his goodness and mercy to us was seen in a proper diagnosis of her condition and an amazingly simple medical solution to her thyroid issues.
I hope that you will experience much grace from our merciful God.
(I, Terry, copy/pasted this from an email. I was not specific in the body of this post as to where to post the prayer. I apologize–it has been a crazy 36 hours!)
Lord, I pray that you would be rock and fortress to Terry and Krista in this time of uncertainty. I pray that their friends, family and fellow church members would rally around them as well in support.
We pray that things would go well with the various procedures Sarah will undergo in the next few days and weeks. We pray that your will would be done in her life and we pray that would be to put her in a place of good health and functionality if that would be pleasing to you.
We pray that the gospel would go forth in this situation, that Terry and Krista would have the strength to speak of their faith and that through this you would receive glory.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
I pray that Sarah will arrive home safely and hopefully swiftly (though not for purposes of the contest). I do know she’ll arrive precisely when she’s meant too. Congratulations and great gift sets.
I pray that God will heal her body though His appointed means and for His glory. I pray for you and your wife to find strength in His promises. I can empathize as we had issues with our daughter when she was born.
Grace and Peace,
Martin
Lord, thank you for your awesome providence in little Sarah. You will do glorious things through her at this time and for years to come. I pray you will hold Terry, Krista, and their boys in your hands and never let the peace you have given them wane, no matter what trials await them. Hold them fast in your hand, make them desperate for you day by day. By their trust in you, create them in clean and steadfast hearts so that their fervent prayers may be heard. Create in us also steadfast hearts so our prayers for Sarah may rise to you. We love them and ask that you pour our your mighty love on them through us. Nevertheless, let it all be done according to your will, that we might glorify you all the more! In the name of your son Jesus Christ, amen!
Father – I come to Your throne room with a heavy heart. I do not know this family personally, but You have placed them on our hearts. What are doing in this situation Lord?
Are You trying the faith of Your servant? I pray for supernatural strength and wisdom to this couple as as they face the many decisions before them. I have seen You do this before my Lord, grant them wisdom beyond measure to the point that they may become surprised at themselves. How You love to do this.
Lord, are You using this child to bring another into Your kingdom? If so Lord, I pray that the one You are pursuing resist You not. I pray a barrier of protection around this one keeping all those but Your saints near giving them no option but to receive Your words. I pray that this person be granted understanding to see You are You really are and run helplessly to You.
Father, I pray Your will be done. I pray that this husband and wife know Your peace that passes all our understanding and be filled with all the Grace and Peace and Joy that their mortal bodies can withstand.
Would You also speak to them Lord? At times like these Father, I have lost my hearing in all the emotion. I ask that you keep their minds clear to hear You as You pour Your love on them in the coming days.
And, Lord, please help me to remember to check back on this family so that I may see Your glorious workings in these lives.
In all these things I ask in Jesus name,
Amen
Lord, I thank You that Sarah was born healthy in every other way. I thank You that You have a plan and purpose, that you were not surprised by any of this and that You are already providing peace and comfort for Krista and Terry. Please cause this family to find grace in the eyes of those in the medical community who provide Sarah’s care and most especially, please strengthen Krista and Terry to reflect the grace, mercy and hope that You will shower upon them. Please provide wisdom for the doctors and healing for Sarah. In Jesus’ precious name…
Father God, I live up to you Terry, Krista, Sarah, and the rest of the Delaney family as well. Be with Sarah during the procedures keeping her from infection and giving gracious care to the particular procedures. Please let the gospel be on the tongues of the Delaney family so that you will receive all glory and honor due you in this specific situation.

Sovereign God, Giver and Sustainer of all life, I know that Terry and Krista and precious Sarah are under Your loving care. I also know thatYou work all things together for God for those who love You and are called according to your purpose and that Sarah’s life and medical situation are for the good for this family because this comes from Your loving hand. I also know that this is for Your glory and that through Sarah’s life will go out a witness of You and your grace. I pray for Terry and Krista, that they will continue to remember that You hold them all in the palm of Your hand and they will always give You the praise and glory as their lives reflect the love and blessings of their Savior Jesus Christ. It is in His Name I thank You for their sweet Sarah. Amen.

Gracious Heavenly Father,
I pray for Krista as she prepares herself and her family for the upcoming surgery for her daughter. Help her to know that Sarah is in Your hands. Help her to have a peace as she recovers from childbirth and enters into caring for a very special little girl. Please lead the Delaney family to the right surgeons as they pursue Sarah’s care. Give them endurance for the days ahead. Bless this family, as You already have.
In Jesus name,
Amen
Father,
There is nothing we can tell You about this precious daughter that You don’t already know in more detail and intimacy than anyone including her doctors will ever know. From before time You saw this time. From the throne room of heaven You keep watch over this family. From eternity past to eternity future Your love and mercy flow freely from Your heart to theirs. Tonight I ask You to do what You do best…be GOD in all Your fullness, be GOD without mistake, be GOD….and let the world see Your hand on this family. Let Your presence fill and over flow. Bring what only You can bring…YOU! Amen and amen
Lord God, Our Heavenly Father,
We come before you now knowing that you are good and do good. We come as helpless beggars crying out for mercy for Sarah. Thank you for sustaining her during pregnancy and bringing her into this world. We praise you for the procedure going well and providing for the Delaney family. Our hearts are expectant for you to pour out more grace as we wait and watch you work. With your sovereign hand, please keep Sarah’s tounge attached to her lip so that she will need a tracheotomy or her jaw broken. During this time, fill the Delaney family with more of your Holy Spirit so that they can be a light to the doctors and others they encounter. Give them hearts that seek to glorify you no matter what may come. Direct their eyes to the cross and help them to remember that your purposes always prevail for your glory and our good.
In Jesus holy name: amen!
Father,
I thank you for what you have already done in this family’s life. I pray for continued love and care and support for this young girl. I pray that her family grows her up with discipline and love. That her family gives her standards and rules and isn’t afraid to push the line of the world. I pray for all that goes with this. I also pray for her health and she grows older. Heal her and make her a vessel to do your good work. I pray this in Jesus name. Amen.
Hi Delaney Family,
I’m not even sure how I found you, obviously the Lord led me. I started at Elyse Fitzpatrick’s blog, went to her facebook page and somehow found your blog. Anyway, praying to God our Heavenly Father that as you go through this season of life that you would be like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither. In all that you do I pray that you will prosper. God knows your way and I pray He continues to be with you. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
Just subscribed by email (I’m in Canada, so I don’t know if I can properly enter in any case). Love your blog by the way, let me know if you’re ever interested in trading links (I’m a Christian book reviewer as well).
Oh Father,
Thank you for bringing the blessing of Sara into her parents lives. Oh Lord, I lift up her parents to you during this difficult time of separation from their darling girl. Please see her safely through surgery and guide the doctors hands as they work for her good. Only you know her needs Lord, and I pray that You see that they are met.
In Jesus Name.
Take care, I’ll continue to pray.
