Thanks so much for clarifying. I certainly am grateful that salvation is a free gift from God and that we do not have to rely upon our fallible flesh. Pride is so very dangerous and insidious. Like you said, if we're not careful, we can find ourselves boasting about our decision to follow Christ. He is the One who calls to us. The idea of our decision-making to come to Christ is something that is ingrained in us. I have never thought of free will as an idol before. That is an interesting point. Where do you feel that free will ends in relation to God? I know He forces noone to come to Him. That was the point of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil: to give Adam and Eve a choice. God is not a dictator.
I believe you are saying that faith is the issue. Am I correct? It is God reaching out to us and we responding by trusting Him. That active faith, (as described in James Chapter 2), is what saves us.

I hope I did not confuse you with these questions. I love discussing God and His Word. Thanks again for everything, and I'll definitely be contacting you about the other book. God bless you. Have a fantastic weekend.

I only drew attention to that issue because it is so prevalent in our theological language that we tend to miss it. I, myself, have been guilty of much the same. I try to use those instances as teaching points more so than criticism points. The biggest problem (and many fall into this trap because of what we are taught and what is pervasive in most churches) is that we have made an idol of free will. So much so, that we often do not even realize that we are making our own choices out to be gods. Think of so much of our decision-based evangelism whereby the evangelist seeks to illicit a decision from his/her hearers. It is often stated in such a way that the salvation from one's sin is only possible if one chooses to be saved. That is not what the Bible teaches at all (see Eph. 2:1-10).

At any rate, I certainly did not think you were bordering on heresy! I appreciate your willingness to pursue this conversation. If you would like, I would be willing to review your second book as well.

God bless, Meredith.

Hello again, Mr. Delaney. I wanted to thank you for taking the time to read Crimilia and am humbled that you enjoyed the book.

For anyone who might be interested, my new novel, "The Jarah Portal," is also available on amazon.com.

Regarding the idea that mankind incapacitates God in some way: this idea wasn't meant by me, and I would like to heer and now express my most sincere apology for this misconception. God is never hindered by humanity, and he is in control of each and every situation. However, there is a fierce warfare in which evil powers continue to fight against His will, and it is the truth of this breathtaking struggle which inspired the good and evil characters of the story, (See Ephesians 6:12).
I would greatly welcome any communication regarding this issue. We all learn each and everyday, and I am always eager to be pointed toward new ideas I have never encountered. God bless you all.

Comment on Ephesians Sermon Series by Martyn Lloyd-Jones by Meredith Leigh Burton

Thank you so very much, Mr. Delaney, for posting this wonderful information. I love the epistle of Ephesians because Paul reminds us all that we are in no position to boast and that, only through Jesus, is all barriers torn down, (E.G., the barrier between ourselves and God, and the obstacle of racial prejudice). We are neither Jew nor Gentile but united believers. Chapters 4-6 have such practical advice and points us to Christ as the perfect model to follow in any situation. My favorite analogy is the depiction of how husbands are to love their wives as Christ loved the church and gave His life for His Bride.
I particularly love the passage in Ephesians 6:10 to the end of the chapter which admonishes us to "be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power" so that by relying on Christ, we can defeat Satan and his minions. The battle is horrifying, but our victory is assured through our faith and constant reliance upon the True Victor. Thank God that we're not alone!

Once again, I want to express my gratitude for your inclusion of audio resources on your site. So often, those of us with an inability to read print miss out on some marvelous studies. There is such an abundance of marvelous ministries available. God bless you for your wonderful work.

By the way, everyone should read "The Jesus Storybook Bible," by Sally Lloyd-Jones. I'm unaware if this author has any connection with Mr. Martin Lloyd-Jones, but the last name in this post made me think of the book. Perfect for any age, the book is a wonderful tool to use when introducing young children to the Gospel, because the author makes sure to point out how each Old Testament story foreshadows Christ's coming to rescue us. The audio version is read by British actor David Suchet and is superb!

Thanks for stopping by, Dr. Groothuis! You are absolutely correct that the footnotes are there for just that--and believe me, the footnotes are copious! I was merely thinking of a review section for the student. That being said, the "good" student will certainly be able to follow and learn much from the footnotes.

God bless, Dr. Groothuis. I for one have learned much from your pen and look forward to more in the future.
